ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Kwanzaa, an African-American holiday, is on day three of its week-long celebration.

The celebration began Friday, Dec. 26, and will run through Thursday, Jan. 1, with celebrations taking place across the country, including in Asheville.

The Center for Spiritual Living took part in the non-religious celebration of family and social values.

The Universal Principles of Kwanzaa event explained the seven defining principles of the holiday and how it’s for the whole community, no matter their background.

“While we may be very diverse in the way that we approach our lives and our traditions, that when it all boils down, we are all one,” said Rev. Dr. Suzi Schadle, Senior Minister.

Kwanzaa is the first-ever African-American holiday. The holiday is meant to honor African heritage and be celebrated by people of African ancestry from around the world.
