COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -The Springs community is set to celebrate the 158th anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers, pivotal African American regiments formed in 1866.

After the Civil War, these soldiers were among the first African Americans stationed in Colorado Territory, where they played a key role in developing the American West by establishing telegraph lines and protecting stagecoach routes.

“Buffalo Soldier history is American history, and its certainly Colorado history. And what I want people to know is I don’t want that history lost,” said Willie Breazell, chairman of the Buffalo Soldiers Community Memorial.

The event will feature keynotes from historians, door prizes, and a 50/50 drawing to fund continued education on the Buffalo Soldiers, will take place Sunday July 28th at VFW Post 101 from 2 P.M. to 3:30 P.M., offering the community a chance to engage with and preserve this significant legacy.
