Truth v. Power is EBONY’s mission to explore the current state of our democracy and the realities it faces ahead of the election in November.

This month we question the true meaning and relationship between the words Truth and Power and how those two concepts can be either used to great potential or to the detriment of our country. We plan to showcase exclusive coverage of political events including the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, to accessible “need-to-know” guides that aim to a help and educate voters; we will dive into the core issues that matter most to YOU, our EBONY community.

Our focus is to take a look at how the past four years—and the years in front of us—impact us and future generations from our Black lives to our “Black jobs.” We’re bringing back that question that always arises each presidential election season: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” and we encourage you to think about if there has indeed been a change.

We’ll provide clear explainers on government policies and identify who is running on the ballots across the country. Ultimately, we aim to get into John Lewis’ “good trouble” while combating misinformation that hinders societal progress.

Our coverage will include a number of social organizations, as well as political and social justice thought leaders who are on the ground doing the work, and highlight young voters who are heading to the polls for the first time. Their contributions will amplify perspectives crucial to the success of the Black community this election season and beyond.

Join us as we navigate all pathways in which Truth and Power take up space in our country.
