The Student Senate approved $4,200 in travel requests for seven student organizations at their Dec. 2 meeting, the shortest one of the semester at just 31 minutes.

The organizations that received funding for travel — $600 each — were the Physics Club, the Illinois Music Education Association, the National Society of Black Engineers, the University Dance Organization, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, the American Pharmacists Association and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Black Girls Rock also submitted a program request for their annual fashion show, which was approved by the Senate.

The Senate also passed a couple of resolutions congratulating various student organizations on recent programming.

Student President Barrett Larkin congratulated the Senate on a successful semester. More than 50 pieces of legislation, which includes both bills and resolutions, have been passed this semester, and more than $10,000 in funding has been given to student organizations for program and travel requests.

Larkin also said more than 800 Scantron forms were handed out to students from the Student Government office.

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Miriam Roccia also made a few announcements, including that Counseling Services will be getting a new director after the position was vacant for roughly a year.

While 10 senators or executive members were absent, they were all excused. The next Student Senate meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, in the Mississippi/Illinois Room of the MUC.
