The 2024 Summer Olympics from Paris are in the books, and the closing ceremony is done after a magnificent gathering of the best athletes in the world. This edition of the Olympic Games had Black athletes representing Team USA across the board in numerous sports.

While we applaud all our Black athletes who competed this summer, we’d also like to highlight those who medaled and give them their moment in the spotlight. Simply qualifying to compete in Paris to represent the country is an honor, but placing in the competition and bringing a medal back for Team USA is the ultimate accomplishment.

As usual, these Olympic Games were filled with memorable moments we’ll be talking about for some time. Whether it was Lauren Scruggs’ historic moment in fencing where she became the first Black athlete to medal for the United States; Noah Lyles’ riveting photo finish win in the men’s 100-meter race; or Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone defending her title in the women’s 400-meter hurdle leaving no doubt that she is the best in the world, these games had all the drama we’ve come to expect.

Even the sports Americans expected to win, like basketball, had its own level of angst, but both our men’s and women’s teams prevailed, bringing home gold yet again. Congratulations to all who competed and took home medals, whether on a team or individually.
