The gaming industry in Pennsylvania saw a more than 26% increase in revenue in November over the same time last year.

Residents, local government officials and others statewide have reason to be more thankful for what transpired with the gaming industry last month.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported on Tuesday that total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, plus fantasy contests, in November was $562,368,782.

That is more than a half-billion dollars, a record within the commonwealth. That figure represented a revenue increase of more than 26% from November 2023.

PGCB regulates gaming revenue in Pennsylvania, which results from slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals. The board has posted separate reports for these types of gaming at https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.

Tax revenue generated from all forms of gaming and fantasy contests last month totaled $232,800,147.

In Washington County, gaming revenues at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, in North Strabane, go into the Washington County Local Share Account. LSA funds may be used for economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects in the county.

Washington County Redevelopment Authority administers the LSA program. The state Department of Community and Economic Development distributes LSA funds annually through grants.

Mohawk Construction

Mohawk Construction was a cut above in an international competition.

The Canonsburg-based company won the Project of the Year Award in the Metal Building category from IMPACT, the labor-management arm of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers.

Mohawk Construction, located on West McMurray Road, triumphed in the Above 10,000-work-hours subcategory.

The firm was honored along with other companies at a reception in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 12. IMPACT CEO Kevin Hilton presented awards to winners in six categories.

Robert J. Quarture Jr., Mohawk’s president, said in a prepared statement: “The projects we competed against were great. Our guys all worked hard in some difficult situations, with foam panels exceeding numbers in the 500s. They made the job look easy and did it without (a lost-time) incident.”

84 Lumber

84 Lumber has built a sturdy reputation with Forbes.

Forbes – an American business magazine known for its news coverage and analysis, and lists of businesses and people – has recognized the North Strabane-based building supplier on its 2024 America’s Top Private Companies list. The publication ranked 84 Lumber No. 100 out of 275 companies.

84 Lumber has made at least one Forbes list in each of the past 37 years, including America’s Best Midsize Employers in 2016 and 2017, and Best Large Employers in 2019.

AHN

Allegheny Health Network, a part of Highmark Health, has announced it has been named as a top health system for Black America by BlackDoctor.org, a national leader in advocating for the health and wellness of black Americans.

BlackDoctor.org recognizes health care institutions that demonstrate a commitment to improving health equity for Black patients.

Margaret Larkins-Pettigrew, MD, and chief clinical diversity, equity and inclusion officer at AHN/Highmark Health, said in a statement: “It’s an honor to be recognized as a top health care destination for Black patients. This award is a testament to the network’s ongoing commitment to addressing racial disparities, social determinants of health, and barriers to care that predominantly impact the health and well-being of Black families across the region.”

AHN is among 76 hospitals in the U.S. to make the list, and one of only four in the state. It is the only one in Western Pennsylvania to be so selected.

AHN also announced that three of its hospitals – Jefferson, Wexford and West Penn – have achieved a “High Performing” designation for maternity and perinatal care in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ratings.

AHN is the only Western Pennsylvania health system to receive the U.S. News & World Report’s “High Performing” status for maternity care, which is based solely on the quality of its metrics.
