RACINE — The Racine Public Library is preparing for a busy September with a lineup of community events, program updates, and schedule changes as the new school year begins.
Labor Day Closure and Bus Pass Changes
The library and its Bookmobile will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, for Labor Day. Services will resume Tuesday, Sept. 2. On that day, bus passes will not be available. The next bus pass distribution is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Lakefront Expo and Tribute to Loretta Life
One of the month’s highlights is the Lakefront Expo, hosted Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual event, organized by the African American Chamber of Commerce, will feature children’s activities, food, music, and a raffle.
As part of the Expo, the library will host A Celebration of Loretta Life, honoring the contributions of Racine’s first Black librarian. Life, known as a literacy advocate and trailblazer in the city, will be recognized in a program from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in the community room.
Friends of the Library Fall Donation Day
Also on Sept. 13, the Friends of the Racine Public Library will hold their Fall Donation Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the library’s first-floor lobby. Books, puzzles, games, movies, and other media will be accepted. Proceeds benefit library programs and services. Donations are accepted year-round during open hours.
Bookmobile Schedule Updates
The library’s Bookmobile will begin its 2025-2026 school-year route on Sept. 2. The schedule mirrors last year’s, with Monday through Saturday stops across Racine County.
A correction notes that EverGreen Academy’s elementary and middle school stops will begin Sept. 3 and Sept. 10, respectively, rather than the later dates previously published. The full schedule is available at RacineLibrary.info/library-go.
Programs for All Ages
Regular programming continues throughout September. On Sept. 3, the library will host Resource Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering community members the chance to connect with local nonprofits. That evening, Racine Public Library Chess Mates will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for open play.
The week of Aug. 30 through Sept. 5 will have no children’s programs, but teen activities resume Sept. 3 with Brick Warriors, a LEGO building session from 4 to 6 p.m.
Adult Programs
Several programs return in early September, including:
- Spanish Language Book Club on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m.
- The Wordsmiths Writing Club on Sept. 2 at 5 p.m.
- Senior Games: Bingo on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m.
- Spice of the Month program beginning Sept. 5 with cardamom.
- The Scribblers Adult Coloring Club on Sept. 5 at 11 a.m.
The marquee literary event is The Next Chapter: Romance Edition on Friday, Sept. 5, featuring bestselling authors Lyssa Kay Adams, Avery Flynn, and Abigail Owen. The event runs from 2 to 7 p.m. and includes writing workshops, a panel discussion, book signings, and a dinner with the authors. Advance tickets are required and available at RacineLibrary.info/friends.
