There are four living ex-presidents.
And one of them is very unpopular with Americans, according to a survey.
A Gallup poll conducted last month showed that former President Joe Biden is viewed unfavorably by 57% of those surveyed, the New York Post reported.
Just 39% had favorable views of Biden, who left office earlier this year after one term in the White House.
At least 60% of independents and 20% of Democrats had unfavorable views of the former president, who withdrew from the 2024 presidential race in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris.
The poll showed that 48% of Americans have a favorable opinion of President Donald Trump, with 50% having an unfavorable view.
“Trump’s and Biden’s ratings are essentially unchanged from those from a survey after the 2024 election,” Gallup said, “indicating neither has gotten an image boost from the news surrounding the presidential transition.”
“Although Trump’s ratings are about equally split between positive and negative ratings, they are among his best since Gallup first measured opinions of him in 1999,” Gallup said.
Trump’s high-water mark with Gallup was the 50% favorable rating he scored in 2005 as host of the reality show “The Apprentice.” That was before Trump got involved in politics.
Barack Obama is the most popular living former president, the survey showed, with a 59% favorability rating and a 36% unfavorable rating. Obama served two terms in the White House.
Former two-term President George W. Bush also remains popular with Americans, scoring a 52% approval rating with a 34% disapproval rating.
Former President Bill Clinton, who also served two terms in the White House, is tied with Trump with a 48% approval rating, Gallup said. However, Clinton’s unfavorable rating was lower than Trump’s, at 41%
Gallup surveyed 1,001 U.S. adults via telephone interviews Jan. 21-27, with a margin of sampling error of plus-or-minus four percentage points.
