In the current climate of our society, we are experiencing feelings of fatigue and are ready for a groundbreaking perspective, with a fresh approach, to breathe new life into our country and restore our political spirit. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), during his DNC speech on Wednesday, believes, “the road ahead will guide us there.”
Jefferies referenced Psalm 30:5 which reads, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
In our darkest hours, when challenges and difficulties arise, no matter how fierce the storm may seem, the light of joy always breaks through. He provided an uplifting, comprehensive outline of how to achieve that joy:
- Strategize on Sunday
- Meet the moment on Monday
- Take it to Him on Tuesday
- Work it out on Wednesday
- Thank the Lord on Thursday
- Fight the power on Friday
- Set it off on Saturday
Believing that it is perseverance and gratitude that form the backbone of the “American dream,” Jeffries shared a call-to-action, urging Americans to continue to show up, speak up, and stand up—not as divided factions, but as a unified force of change that will not only guide us to joy but also reconnect our nation with the Divine and rekindle any lights that may have gone dim in the face of adversity. The pandemic offered us a rare gift: a chance to reflect. As global citizens, we arrived at a crossroads where we had to reassess ourselves to restore ourselves, both personally and communally.
1 Corinthians 1:10 reminds us that true unity is not about conformity, it is about harmonizing our diverse fortitude with a common purpose in supporting one another. When we collectively use our diverse gifts, we can overcome and become an unstoppable force for sustainable change.
Jefferies concluded his speech in this same sentiment by sharing that as we continue our march towards a better union and restoring the “American dream” in every community, remember that our collective spirit, when united, can overcome any obstacle.
