Halifax Community College will host its second annual Celebrating Black Excellence Program on February 13 at 11:00 AM in room 401 A & B of the 400 Building.

The event will feature the college’s signature Annual Stamp Dedication and local African American Heroes recognition.

The nomination period is through January 31.

The award ceremony will celebrate African American individuals who demonstrate unwavering commitment and make unique contributions to the Roanoke Valley community.

To nominate someone for the award, nominators must submit a form, which includes an essay that addresses each of the following qualities that are used as the selection criteria.

The narrative should expand and focus on specific examples that demonstrate the nominee’s commitment and unique contributions to the Roanoke Valley.

Any citizen in the Roanoke Valley of the African-American community is eligible to be considered for this nomination.

Individuals may be nominated by peers or family members only — individuals may not nominate themselves. Nominators may not nominate more than one person.

The narrative should describe the nominee’s qualities in the following areas:

Commitment and contributions to the community

Unselfish devotion to others

Initiative, innovation and leadership in the region

Willingness to share time and wisdom through service to the community and its citizens
