During his working trip to the Netherlands, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) stated that there is still room for more cooperation in the fields of economy and defence. As he explained, the country is an important trade partner for Slovakia and belongs among the top five investors in the country. Blanár pointed out that about 50 large-sized Dutch firms are active on Slovakia’s market, in which they have recently invested more than €9 billion. “More investments are being carried out in eastern Slovakia even as we speak, which only confirms that the Netherlands lists Slovakia as a good-investments country,” claimed Blanár. As for potential avenues of further cooperation, he identified the fields of green technologies, nuclear energy, and defence as most promising.

After concluding his visit to the Netherlands, the Foreign Minister continued his working trip with a visit to Ireland on Thursday (March 27). In Dublin, Blanár held talks with the Irish Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, John Commins, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in social policy, housing, and regional development. He also met with representatives of the local Slovak community at the Slovak Embassy in Ireland.

On Friday, Blanár was to meet with his Irish counterpart, Simon Harris, to discuss Slovak-Irish economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and key issues related to European security and the war in Ukraine.
