SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Enjoy $10 lunch and $20 dinner specials while exploring excellent Black-owned restaurants in Shreveport-Bossier during Black Restaurant Week.

Starting on Oct. 20 until 26, the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce (SBAACC) presents the Shreveport-Bossier Black Restaurant Week. The event is a yearly celebration of Black culinary excellence and features over 17 participating restaurants and bars.

The businesses will offer special menu items and curated experiences for food lovers across the region. The event aims to stimulate economic impact in the local restaurant industry for Black-owned businesses and raise awareness of these businesses in Shreveport-Bossier.

“Supporting Black-owned restaurants plays a crucial role in achieving socio-economic upliftment, and the sustainable implementation of these benefits will strengthen the entire community and open opportunities for future generations,” says a statement from the SBAACC.

One well-known and award-winning restaurant, Orlandeaux’s will be participating in the event. The restaurant is one of, if not the oldest-running black restaurants in America, which started around 1921 as Freeman & Harris Cafe.

“Black Restaurant Week is so very important to me because it gives us a time to celebrate, support and shine a light on, not just Orlandeaux’s, but all of the wonderful black-owned restaurants in our area. Through the last century, our family has filled the bellies of the people of this city, so it’s our duty to continue to serve our Creole Cuisine to our community for another 100 years!” Damien Chapman, owner of the Orlandeaux’s.
