SHREVEPORT, La – We’re chowing down in Shreveport-Bossier as Black Restaurant Week kicks off.
Participating restaurants are offering plate specials all week at $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner, giving you a taste of the best plates that make the local eateries so unique.
The Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce is hosting Black Restaurant Week. It kicked off with a king versus king cookoff between the king of the Krewe of Sobek and the king of the Krewe of Harambee.
Other events taking place this week are taco Tuesday, a scavenger hunt, a foodie fest and more.
“Typically, an African-American family spends about $2,500 eating away from home. So that’s going to be at local restaurants, that can be out of town restaurants, a lot of different restaurants eating away from home. Less than half of those dollars are going back to black-owned restaurants. So we want to help highlight those local black-owned restaurants that we have here,” said Shreveport City Councilman Alan Jackson.
