WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination of Brad Garcia for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

“The nominees at today’s hearing demonstrated the kind of commitment to equal justice that is greatly needed on our federal courts. In particular, Brad Garcia’s impressive experience defending and protecting the rights of all people will be valuable on the D.C. Circuit. If confirmed, he would be the first Latino judge to ever serve on this important court. We urge the Senate to move quickly to confirm Mr. Garcia and ensure that our federal courts better reflect and represent the varied perspectives and diversity of our nation.”
