WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement regarding the House delaying a vote on HR 3884: The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act (MORE Act):

“The overwhelming majority of voters support transforming marijuana laws and the states are following suit. It is long overdue that Congress address draconian federal marijuana laws through measures like the MORE Act. Congress must pass this substantive racial justice bill to help communities of color demanding justice, and we look forward to continuing to work with lawmakers to achieve that goal.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 220 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States. The Leadership Conference works toward an America as good as its ideals. For more information on The Leadership Conference and its member organizations, visit www.civilrights.org.
